After arriving to the business, I met with Shane, the Owner. He made me aware of a Water Line leak on their side of the Meter. He noticed a lot of Water pooling at the Surface, and Orange Alamance Water Systems determined it was not their Meter. The Building use to be on Well, however back in 60’s is When he believes the meter was installed. The meter was off when I arrived, however when you turn it on, the leak spun the meter at a fast rate. It did not take long for water to surface. A hole was dug within a foot of the meter, a buried PRV had corroded and caused the leak. Per code, mechanical fittings should not be buried. Due to the nature of this leak, being that the PRV is buried and the pipe is galvanized steel, we would only move forward with a line replacement. I gave an estimate to replace the line, however the owner has decided not to move forward with work. He is going to attempt to make the repair himself. The hole was left uncovered and the meter is off.
