Today I came to Maisa’s New Brighton home becuase the water heater stopped working on Tuesday. Upon inspection of the 14 year old tank I found the controller is giving an error code indicating ignition failure. I can see the burners fire up then shut off again. This could be a problem with the flame rectification system however diagnostics will be required to determine the problem. The tank is past its life expectancy of 8-12 years especially without a water softener. I went over my findings and options with Maisa. She has decided to just clean the flame sensor today. I removed the burner, igniter and flame sensor. Cleaned the flame sensor and put the system back together. The water heater is working now and hot water should be restored within the hour.
