Today I came to Steven’s Okotoks home to perform a furnace tune up before winter. Steven just moved into the home 1.5 years ago and wants to make sure the system is going to last the winter. Furnace tune up: Upon tune up and inspection of the 27 year old system I tested and adjusted the gas valve, burners, gas pressure and temperature rise. Tested ignition system, inducing motor and assembly, blower motor and assembly, heat exchanger, static pressures, tested and tightened all electrical connections, all safety switches and control board. Furnace is in very poor condition. The inducing motor, thermocouple and gas valve are all working well with manufacturers specifications as is the control board and safety switches. The blower motor has over heated at least once which caused its internal liquified grease pack to rupture. This will result in failure. The heat exchanger has at least 4 large cracks that I can see.
