inspect a kitchen hood fire suppression system at a local restaurant after staff reported that the system’s manual pull station was difficult to activate during a routine safety check. Upon inspection, I found that the pull cable had excessive tension due to improper routing and lack of lubrication, which could delay activation in an actual emergency. I carefully adjusted the cable routing to reduce sharp bends, applied fire-rated lubricant, and tested the system to ensure smooth manual operation. I also verified that the nozzles, fusible links, and control panel were in good working condition. After resetting the system, I walked the kitchen staff through a basic operation and maintenance overview to prevent future issues. The system is now fully functional and compliant with code.
