Today, I came out to our client’s home to take a look at a leak that was occurring in the basement coming from the ceiling. Our client had already cut the ceiling open to review the leaking half inch copper to pex connection. I repaired this by soldering a bar and onto the copper and crimping an additional section of plastic in place, and making a secure connection that is sufficient to be closed up inside of the ceiling. I also found that the water heater did not have an expansion tank, but had an expansion valve. I removed the expansion valve and I also removed a saddle valve that was abandoned and just about to leak, a little weighs higher up the pipe. I installed a new water shut off valve supplying water to the water heater, and I installed an expansion tank system. That does a better job of protecting the home from pressure spikes.
