Sam J - arrive to service a mini split that was freezing up at the condenser. Customer explained that her handyman pointed it out as he was working outside near the unit this weekend. Customer agreed the service fee so I began diagnosing system. We turned on all 4 evaporator heads, and I put my gauges on the condenser outside to find the system was low on 410a. I discussed the estimates that I included with today’s invoice with the customer which included charging the system, electronic leak search and finally a leak search with repair. The house is empty there for a suggested doing a pressure drop test to locate the lineset that is leaking. There is over 200 lineal feet of copper on this job as there are four separate mounted throughout the house. Customer agreed to pump the unit down and reserve the refrigerant in the condenser, while putting a nitrogen charge on each individual line said to see which lineset drops to reveal where the leak is located.
