I arrived for a new customer no cool call. I inspected the system with the homeowner and we discussed the system and what it’s doing and how it freezes up the longer it’s on. I found the 100,000 btu 80%gas furnace to have one 16” flex return that splits to three return grills in the attic. The furnace is in a hallway closet and it’s a up flow. The evaporator coil is a 4 ton coil with a 4 ton drive furnace with a 3.5 ton condenser. I explained that he needs additional return duct work if he was to replace the system. He is a carpenter and wanted to increase the return chase way his self. I offered to add refrigerant to the system to get him cooling or to preform a leak search and a repair replacement of the leaking component. The homeowner did not want to do anything to the system at this time.
