Arrived onsite to replace a failed gas valve on a York propane furnace. During testing of the new gas valve, I noticed that when the blower came on, the flames fluctuated. I checked the carbon monoxide levels in the exhaust, and it was reading over 400 parts per million. Due to this unsafe condition, we are required to red tag the unit, and I advised them that it is not safe to operate. The furnace is approximately 15 years old and showing signs of age. When I originally diagnosed the failed gas valve, the unit was not running. I had also warned them at that time about the furnace’s age and the unknown condition of the heat exchanger. They would like a quote to replace the furnace and to install mini-splits. 1500 sq. ft house with a 80k btu propane furnace. 25 ft of 2 inch pvc vent with 5 90s. Needs filter rack.
