I am a highly skilled home service professional, and I recently completed a job on a Thermo Pride oil furnace. The furnace was in need of annual maintenance, including replacement of the nozzle, oil filter, and pump strainer. The heat exchanger and flue pipe were thoroughly brushed and vacuumed, and furnace cement was applied around the chimney connection to ensure a tight seal. Additional screws were installed in the flue piping to improve stability and safety. All burner components and system safeties were tested and confirmed to be operating properly. During the inspection, we found the combustion chamber to be deteriorated and in poor condition. Replacement of the chamber is strongly recommended as soon as possible to maintain safe and efficient operation; an estimate for this work will be provided. A combustion test, smoke test, and draft test were completed to verify performance. We also recommend installing proper air filters on the unit, as the fan motor showed excessive debri
Arrived on site to look at installing a customer supplied Rinnai direct vent heater. They misplaced the vent, trim pieces and associated hardware. I provided an estimate to install a new Rinnai or if they find the parts for the customer supplied one. Both estimates include running 25 ft of 1/2 copper gasline to a gas company supplied propane tank and regulator.
Upon arrival tech found that customer wanted an automatic leak detecting shutoff. Customer also had an automatic sediment filter and a softener. Tech started by servicing softener. I field tested the raw and treated water and replaced the injector and screen. I then tested the function of the system. Both systems are working well. I then removed a section of pipe. I installed two ball valves on each side of the system and a boiler drain for serviceability. I then installed a wye strainer to prevent the build up of debris in the shutoff. I then installed the shutoff. I then set up the system with the customer. We then set the system to the standard level to prevent unnecessary shutdowns. System is functioning properly with no leaks present at time of service. Raw field test. PH: 7.5 FE: Trace. H: 10 Treated field test. PH:7.5 FE:0 H:0
Responded to a report that the furnace blower fan would not turn on when manually activated at the thermostat. Upon inspection, found that the thermostat was wired with only a two-conductor cable, which does not support independent fan control. With approval, replaced the thermostat wire between the furnace and thermostat with a six-conductor cable. Secured the new wire along the existing Romex and fastened it to the wall for proper support. Tested operation and confirmed that the blower fan now turns on and off correctly when controlled from the thermostat and operates automatically with the burner as intended. Identified a minor oil leak at the oil tank filter assembly and tightened both the filter nut and bleeder nut to stop the leak.
I performed the annual service on the Peerless oil boiler, which included replacing the nozzle, oil filter, and strainer, as well as brushing and vacuuming the boiler and smoke pipe. I re-cemented the smoke pipe connection into the chimney and checked both the pump pressure and pump cutoff. During the safety check, I found that the boiler had no water and the water feeder was stuck. I bumped the feeder to restore operation, and it began to feed the boiler, though it was not fully filled at the customer’s request. With the customer’s approval, I replaced the water feeder on the boiler and purged the heating zone for the big room, which was not heating properly. Afterward, I performed combustion and draft tests, and all readings were within normal operating range. The boiler is currently working as it should. We will need to return to clean the Viessmann unit. At this time, I recommend replacing the oil tank legs, as they are heavily rusted and could pose a safety concern if left unaddr
