Job Checkin

Called out today due to power loss of the upstairs, garage, and front foyer. I asked the customer to show me their main electrical panel. They told me they previously tried to reset the breaker, which immediately tripped and arc’ed. I saw that the main breaker was still tripped and tried to reset it. This resulted in a large arc flash and the breaker tripping once more. I could see signs of significant corrosion on the main breaker, branch circuit breakers, and in the bottom of the panel box. This directed me to outside, in which I saw that the service cable had a large tear in it. This allowed rain water to enter the service cable and pour into the main panel. The entire panel needs to be replaced, as well as the service cable entering the home, to prevent this from happening again. A permit will have to be pulled to complete the work. A permit requires us to update the home electrical system to current county safety standards. This means two emergency disconnects and two surge protec
