Determined that the thermostat needed batteries. This made the system go back to operating, but it was discovered that the current thermostat is worn out and needs replacing. I proposed replacing the thermostat and wiring in the common wire to make the thermostat not need batteries. Replacment of the front end thermostat and wiring the common wire into the the electrical to remove the need of batteries.
