Preformed heating maintenance on a single gas Trane system. I tested all electrical components and safeties on the furnace. All tested within manufacturer specifications. I checked the filter for cleanliness. The client had recently changed the filter. Temperature being supplied to the home was at 111 degrees and return air was at 71. I proceeded to check the outside unit where I found that recent repairs of a Contactor and capacitor were changed, I tested he start amps to insure the compressor was starting up good, I found that the compressor is testing over 100 amps manufacturer rating for start up is 124 amps, that could be a possible reason why the Contactor and capacitor failed within a year. I also noticed the system did not have any type of surge protection. Surge protection can help prevent damage to the ac unit from lightning strikes, brown/black outs and just random power surges throughout the year. Unit was heating upon departure.
