PDM responded quickly to a plumbing emergency, in great form. Pete came over quite quickly to address the leak, and worked his way through a number of obstacles after isolating the problem. Pete is very bright, and we are always delighted to see him when the need arises. Many thanks also to Christina in the office who understood right away the sense of urgency, and her great handling of the issue and expediting. PDM is terrific.

Commercial plumbing repair. Repair leaks on a copper piping water line in the main lobby. I had to turn off the hot water to the entire first floor and drain the entire system to repair it. After the system was drained, I cut out the faulty 90 and replaced it with a new 1 1/2” copper pipe by using two 1 1/2” progress couplings and one 11/2” progress 90. Turned the water back on, checked for leaks, and emptied the air of the hot water line before turning the return pump back on. After a piping system inspection, I found it was holding with no leaks. The air was bled out of the system, and the return pump was working properly. I cleaned up the work area.
School plumbing service. In a closet, there is a hose with a shutoff valve for both hot and cold water lines; both are open. When the valve is off, this will create a crossover from hot to cold. The same is true with the kitchen pre-rinse hose if the hot and cold water lines are open with the sprayer off. I also looked at the water heaters and advised that the cold feed may need to install a check valve.
Building estimate for annual water backflow preventers annual test.
Furnace repair. Customer was hearing a fluttering sound when furnace was turning on. Found customers duct damper handles were slightly loose and caused damper to fall down enough to vibrate off the main duct. Tightened handles to dampers and noise went away. No charge via tech.
Carrier furnace repair. The indoor temperature was 70 in the house when I got there and the thermostat was set at 76. Carriers have a delay of about 90 seconds and the blower motor kicks on first. I inspected and tested. I found the flame sensor was very dirty. I cleaned the sensor. A dirty furnace flame sensor will prevent a furnace from running and lock it out after 3 attempts to start/run.
Water backflow preventer test. Failed, need to repair 6" RPZ.
Heating repair. Customer said thermostat wouldn’t turn on unless he set it to 78*. After diagnosing, found thermostat giving off temperature display and not signaling correct commands. Replaced thermostat using a T4. System is operating and heating as it should be at this time.
Furnace repair. Found a faulty inducer motor. Installed inducer kit. The inducer motor removes combustion gases from the furnace's heat exchanger after the combustion process.
Commercial water backflow preventer RPZ leaking a lot. Repair.
Plumbing repair. Found angle stop leaking, replace valve.
School boiler repair. Pipe is lifted above floor in gym. Found steam traps are leaking. Shut down heaters in gym to change both traps on the end of the main to get steam up and going will have to return tomorrow to check any other traps in this area. Steam traps are a type of automatic valve that filters out condensate (ie condensed steam) and non-condensable gases such as air without letting steam escape. Replace 3- bucket traps 2 are on the main line 1 on a unit heater Also replace 2- radiator angle steam traps. Material used in notes.
Furnace maintenance. Cleaned and serviced furnace. Tested inducer motor, pressure switches, flame sensor, ignitor, gas valve voltage, blower motor amperage and capacitor. Checked thermostat and heat exchanger. Cleaned out drain line. Replaced furnace filter that customer provided. System under warranty. Everything is operating and heating as it should at this time. Customer renewed VIP maintenance program. One visit is being used today and they will have one remaining for 2025 cooling season.
