I performed a heating maintenance on a 2017 heat pump. I checked amps, capacitors, electrical, safeties, heating kit, and cleanliness. During testing, I had the system short out on me in the low voltage circuit. After examining the system, I determined that a contactor on the heating kit had shorted out. This resulted in a voltage drop through out the system. Customer approved the replacement of the comtactor and the system was back to operating. I observed that the outdoor unit is starting with high amps from the compressor. This is slowly reducing the capacitors charge and wearing down the compressor. The unit is not currently protected from surges. I offered to install a surge protector and hard start. The customer declined further options.
