Preformed winter tune up on Trane package unit, system seems to be in good running order. Last visit we were here for a service call because the blower was not working due to a loose connection. I suggested again that we put a surge protector on unit to protect homeowners investment as well as adding a in rush device to lower starting amps and keep a healthy compressor for years to come. I went over the different maintenance plans with him as well, he asked if we can send him paper copies to look over and then make a decision. Unit is running at departure.

Returned to home after putting dye in system over a month ago after other companies were out before us. The unit doesn’t look like it’s lost refrigerant and I can’t find a leak. I’m explained to homeowner to call when it’s slowed in performance so we don’t have to charge a service fee. Right now the unit’s refrigerant looks exactly how I left it on my last visit.

Arrived to home and found unit, not blowing air, after inspecting unit, I pulled the plug on the blower to check voltage and found that one of the spade terminals was backed out and had barely been making connection. So I pushed the spade down and made sure the harness was secure on the motor. After I did that unit was running correctly and had a 21° temperature differential I departure. Unit is under parts and labor warranty.

This is the beginning of a process, I would add the Dye, so if the unit does slow in performance, we will be able to return and track down where the leak is. Then we can determine if a coil needs to be replaced or needs a braised repair. This is just a estimate once I weigh it and I will be able to give an exact amount. Returned a couple days later and put 6 pounds of 410 in unit and added dye. Unit has a 22° temperature differential at departure and told customer to give us a call in a couple months to locate leak unless units slows in performance.

Arrived to home and spoke with homeowner, they told me that they had another company out and was supposed to return in the next day or so. They were just looking for another estimate to determine if they were getting the same information. I found that the unit is low on charge, normally, this is an indication that the unit has a leak somewhere. It is possible that it’s been low on charge for a while since install since no maintenance has been done, but they told me that it worked better in previous summers. I left an estimate for 5 pounds of refrigerant , it is possible it could take more or less and I will know the exact amount once I have it on a scale. And also for injecting dye. Also, I spoke to homeowner about the importance of maintenance. Unit only had a 6° split. Unit is running at departure but not within manufacture specifications.
