We performed an annual maintenance service on the Buderus oil-fired boiler. Service included replacing the oil nozzle, filter, and strainer; vacuuming and brushing the heat exchanger and smoke pipe; and cementing the smoke pipe connection at the chimney. A combustion analysis and draft test were completed, and all system safeties were inspected. At the completion of service, the boiler was operating properly. During the maintenance, we observed that the boiler system pressure was elevated at 25 PSI, exceeding the recommended operating pressure of 15 PSI. Further inspection revealed a failed pressure relief valve and a failing expansion tank. With customer approval, both components were replaced. The system was then checked for leaks, pressurized correctly, and tested for proper operation. At this time, the system is functioning as designed.
