Reason for today’s visit was to assess main breaker tripping when car charger is running at night. At first glimpse when opening the panel we did not notice anything out of the ordinary. I then had customer turn on his car charger and plug it in so we could do draws on the wires. We were not getting any excessive amperage being pulled however, after about 10 minutes, I started to notice the wire getting extremely hot going to the left lug on the main breaker. As a few minutes past, it became so hot that you couldn’t touch it, which led me to grab my thermal camera and was reading over 225° on the main lug. And then shut off the main breaker and pulled on the main wire and found that it was extremely loose. Due to the heat exposure at the main breaker, I I formed customer I would need to replace the main breaker as I was reading 225+ inside it and the main breaker as it could be damaged as it is not rated to handle extreme heat. Customer agreed in which we went ahead and replaced it. On
