During inspection, it was found that the oil furnace is very old and had not been cleaned or serviced in approximately nine years. The air filter located at the furnace was heavily soiled, and the blower belt was cracked and near failure. Upon removing the furnace cover, it was discovered that the combustion air intake was completely obstructed, preventing adequate combustion air from reaching the burner. With customer approval, the blower belt was replaced and a full annual service of the oil furnace was performed. This service included replacement of the nozzle, oil filter, and strainer; thorough vacuuming of the furnace; cleaning of the smoke pipe; resealing all smoke pipe connections with high-temperature RTV; and securing the smoke pipe to the chimney using furnace cement. During further inspection, the transformer wiring showed signs of overheating and melting, and the cad cell eye was found to be deteriorated.
