Upon arrival, I investigated a reported error code on the Rheem hybrid water heater, which was not operating in heat pump mode. Diagnostic testing confirmed that the evaporator temperature sensor had failed. Rheem will be sending Steve a replacement thermistor; however, I installed a new one today to restore operation. After replacement, I verified that the system is functioning correctly and that heat pump mode is operating as intended. During the visit, I also noted a strong sulfur odor in the water at both the bathroom and kitchen fixtures. I collected a water sample for further evaluation and will arrange for a plumber to visit the home to assess possible treatment options.
