We arrived on site to address the reported drain backup. Upon arrival, we witnessed large amounts of sewage escaping from the top of the toilet, which appeared to be the result of an overflow caused by usage from a main line stoppage. Work Performed • We ran a drain snake approximately 50 feet through the line and successfully unclogged the stoppage. • After clearing the line, we inspected the interior of the drain. • The inspection revealed heavy scale buildup and cast iron piping in poor overall condition. Inspection Findings • No observable cracks or breaks were present in the cast iron at this time. • However, the piping displayed severe thinning throughout the section we inspected. • The condition of the cast iron suggests it is approaching failure, and cracks or breaks may occur in the near future if corrective action is not taken.
