We met with the homeowner today regarding her existing tankless water heater. The current unit is an older model, natural gas–fired, and her insurance is requiring replacement due to age and condition. We recommended replacing the heater with a new Rinnai natural gas tankless water heater equipped with an outdoor cover. In addition to the heater replacement, we are preparing an estimate for running a new gas line from the existing gas system to an exterior location where the homeowner plans to install an outdoor grill. This scope of work will include installing a shutoff valve and a nipple after the valve, leaving the homeowner responsible for all remaining grill connections. We also explained that if the homeowner wishes to proceed with the heater replacement with permits, the estimate will change. Electrical upgrades would be required in order to pull a permit for the heater installation. This permitting requirement does not apply to the gas line work.
