I arrived at our clients home for a 2 system maintenance inspection. Mark showed me the attic access and thermostats for both units. I quickly began in the attic and inspected the filters for both units. Both had recently been replaced and did not need to be changed today. I then went outside to test and inspect both condenser units. I tested all the electrical components and found that the upstairs capacitor failed and is below manufacture specifications. Subsequently it is causing the compressor to exceed the manufacture start amps limit. If this continues to happen the compressor runs the risk of also failing. I attempted to discuss my finding with mark but he was on a call. We briefly discussed replacing the failed capacitor and also adding a compressor saver (hard start kit) to help reduce the start amps on the compressor and bring them within normal manufacture range.
