Today I had the pleasure of conducting maintenance on a 6 year old Carrier system. Upon arrival , homeowner stated that the system has been working fine and alerted me that I’m only checking the upstairs unit. I started by verifying system cleanliness. I found the blower assembly and ducts dirty and in need of cleaning but there’s a strong possibility that the downstairs ducting were damaged so he elected to not take a chance on the cleaning. I then verified all amps, temps, and pressures. I found the contactor had some charring and the capacitor was failing. I also found the system inrush (LRA) was out of manufactures specifications. I discussed my findings with the homeowner who agreed to replace the contactor, capacitor, and add a hard start kit. Once new devices were installed, I reverified system performance. All conditions were normal at this time of departure.
