Today I had the pleasure of conducting maintenance on a 8 year old Carrier system. Upon arrival, homeowner stated the system has been working fine and that he unlocked the condenser cage so that I could perform the maintenance. I started by verifying system cleanliness and found the ducts and blower assembly dirty and in need of cleaning. I then verified all amps temps and pressures. I found the condenser capacitor failing. It is to read 45 mfd +/- 6% but I read it at 41.07. I also found the compressor inrush (LRA) out of manufacturer specifications. It is not to read over 109 amps but I read it at 123.1 amps. I discussed my findings with the homeowner and recommended replacing the capacitor, adding a hard start kit, clean the blower assembly, and clean the ducts. The homeowner approved all but the duct cleaning which he will schedule at another time. I made the repairs and reverified system operations. All conditions normal at time of departure.
