Today I had the pleasure of conducting maintenance on a 9 year old Carrier system. Upon arrival , homeowner stated the system has been working fine. He pointed out that the system only cools the garage as intended but he never uses it. I explained that I would be just as thorough all the same. I started by verifying system cleanliness. The system was clean but I changed the filter. I then verified all amps temps and pressures. I found the system inrush (LRA) was out of manufacturers specifications. It is not supposed to exceed 62.9 amps but I read it at 70.1 amps and recommended adding a hard start kit. Homeowner agreed but would like to discuss with his wife before moving forward with the recommendation. All conditions otherwise normal at the time of departure.
