I arrived at the home due to it not cooling properly. I initially went to the indoor unit and found both thermostat to be off. I turned the upstairs thermostat on and proceeded outside to the heat pump. I found that it was cooling properly. I turned the downstairs thermostat on and it was sending the correct signal to the board. Subsequently the board was not sending signal to the zone damper motor. I initially thought it was a failed zone control board. I proceeded back outside and checked refrigerant pressures. While outside the heat pump went into a lockout due to “temperature sensor issues” on the data plate. Both thermostat were on but the zones had switched. I further diagnosed that the downstairs thermostat was sending the incorrect signal. Instead of cooling it began to heat the home and the conflicting signals were causing the heat pump to lockout.
