Reason for today’s visit with the customer was troubleshooting a non working light in the kitchen. Upon troubleshooting it I discovered the ballast had gone out on it. I recommended replacing it with a new Integrated LED light that is roughly the same size. The panel is an older General Electric panel that is in dire need of replacing. The neutral bar is corroded, the breakers are showing signs of overheating, and the panel in general is beyond its expiration date. Beside it is a FPE Disconnect that the A/C company bypassed and used as a junction box. However, they landed their wires under the FPE Terminals and because they didn’t fit they cut off many of the strands for the ground. I provided a quote to replace the panel. This quote includes permitting, emergency disconnecting means, and surge protection as required by current electric Code. He also complained of the attic fan having gone out.
