I arrived at our clients home for a single system maintenance inspection. Our client showed me the thermostat and attic access and mentioned that immediately after the storm the unit struggle to reach desired set point and wanted to ensure everything was working. He had recently replaced his air filter and did not need it changed today. I proceeded outside and began testing the electrical components of the condenser. The capacitor and contactor passed inspection. I did find the condenser fan motor with extremely high run amps and also evidence of oil coming from the motor drive shaft. I showed this to our client and also found the unit to no longer be under warranty. I also tested the compressor Otto and it was exceeding the manufacture specifications for start amps. Our clients elected to replace the motor and install a hard start kit. Once replaced and part 8 stalled the unit began to run properly with the start amps measuring within normal levels.
