The reason for today’s visit with the customer was power loss at the drier/range. After speaking with the home owner, i was shown the issue at hand and i began to diagnose the problem at the panel. The panel was a 200 amp BR 30 space with multiple shared neutrals, illegal/unsafe wire splices, mismatched breakers, and a service cable that has tears in its jacket. After seeing the panel, i tested voltage at both of the breakers for the range and the drier. Both came back with 120 to each leg on the neutral and 240 when testing both phases. After eliminating some unknowns, i came back to the solution that it is best to change the panel while doing so correcting all of the other issues at hand and eliminating the power loss situation. At this time the customers would like to think about the estimate and will reach back out if deciding to move forward.
