Diagnosed failed hot surface igniter. Lit furnace manually, ran combustion test. Heat exchanger failed: rise in O2 and CO with blower startup. Tested supply air, 0ppm CO. Discussed diagnosis and explained furnace needs replaced. Agreed to new igniter to keep it running until we can get our replacement team out here.
Diagnosed failed nest thermostat. Checked thermostat wire sheathing... only brown is degraded and is unused. Explained how to wire the humidifier to the new thermostat. Also discussed maintenance plans.
Performed heating maintenance on a Tempstar 80% efficient two stage natural gas furnace. Replaced air filter Pulled and cleaned flame sensor Verified control board setup switches for airflow settings and adaptive two stage operation with a single stage thermostat Gas pressure for high fire set to 3.2" and has a 48 degree temperature rise. Gas pressure for low fire set to 1.6" and has a 43 degree temperature rise. Ran furnace for an extended period to be sure no high temperature limit trips. All electrical components test within manufacturer's tolerances Wiring is all tight and secure, no visual signs of overheating or fraying. No carbon monoxide detected in supply or return ductwork Blower wheel is clean and free of any debris
Customer concern was noise at startup and shutdown of the heat and more noise from the second floor return during operation. Increased set point to initiate a call for heat. The audible click of the humidifier water solenoid valve could clearly be heard throughout the hoise. The noise from the second floor return was the fan of the humidifier transmitting noise through the ductwork. Cycled humidifier on and off while customer stood under the return grille. He verified the noise was the humidifier and asked it be shut off. Explained the benefits of the humidifier and the maintenance requirements for it. He said his small child is scared of the noise and wishes to not use it as a result.
Furnace was operating upon arrival. Only one stored fault code present, it was E2.1... ignition proving failure. Pulled and cleaned burners. They were rusty and not allowing reliable crossover ignition. Pulled and cleaned the flame sensor, too. Quoted stainless steel burners.
2015 Lennox 80 Plus upflow basement install gas furnace Upon arrival today the system was at the set temperature and heating mode with the blower running. Heating appears to cycle on and off normal and is running at 134° in the supply plenum Homeowners complaint of furnace fan motor never turning off appears to have been resolved by resetting the thermostat fan mode to auto instead of on. Suspect children in the house inadvertently change the setting. Performed heating pmi checked electrical OK checked and replaced 20x25x4 filter and replaced water panel with owners cleaned flame sensor and checked ignitor blew out drain lines and drain trap cycled system in heating checked motor amps and temperature rise furnace operating properly at this time
Two system water furnace 5 series heating equipment tune up, maintenance, cleaning, filter inspection, safety inspection Upon arrival and initial test runs both system antifreeze ground loops are registering 0 PSI. Neither system has recorded any major service codes that need attention. In 4 years time between both systems one unit had one communication service code both units had two over under voltage codes and 15 to 20 system resets. Repressurize both ground loops to 45 PSI, maximum household water pressure. Shop vac all equipment and blowout condensate drain traps, Run test all equipment in multi-stage heat pump heating mode and all stages of auxiliary heat. The three ton system is running an excellent condition within parameters in all aspects. April Air 700 humidifier had the water turned off but is functioning correctly at this time.
