Came out for a high water bill. Met with homeowner who described what was going on. We confirmed there was a leak at the meter. Shut main shut off before the PRV and confirmed the leak stopped, indicating leak was somewhere inside the home. Used leak detection equipment and isolated point of leak to underneath the downstairs bathroom floor. Received approval to jackhammer the slab and dig down to the line. First spot we found the pipe but not the leak. Was getting a strong signal with the leak detection under the vanity. Removed the vanity and jackhammered underneath, no sign of the leak. We realized the signal we were getting with leak detection equipment was due to the leak under the slab spraying onto the drain line which was echoing under the slab and giving false positives. Followed pipe and broke another hole into the slab in front of the toilet. We were able to locate leak on a 3/4 copper water pipe, leak was due to corrosion in the side of the pipe.
