Arrived on job site; customer stated that the breaker controlling the refrigerator was not working properly. During diagnostics, found that the breaker was a Gen 2 dual-function 20-amp CH breaker, which is on recall and known to fail prematurely. Also noted that the customer has four additional dual-function breakers that are not the updated Gen 6 breakers with the “TL” symbol. Explained to the customer that these breakers should be replaced, as failures typically occur in a domino effect and there is no way to predict how long the remaining breakers will last. Provided multiple replacement options, including full breaker replacement and a temporary solution. Customer did not want to go with supervisor pricing at this time, so a last-resort option was offered: contacting Eaton directly to obtain four replacement breakers under warranty.
