Last week Modern Comfort Heating and Air service came to my house referred by Tevis. The man walked in and immediately said I needed a new furnace because it's old. I've never had any problems with it. He said he vacuumed it out, but I didn't hear any noise. He kept telling me I needed a new unit. He said anything older than 15 years was too old. My unit is 24 years old but the previous service people said it was fine and just needed yearly tune ups and cleanings. Comfort said the chimney was having problems and needed changing. I just had a chimney cleaner out three weeks ago and they said it was fine. Just needed painting outside. Chimney was clean. He said he put the sensor on to gage co2 and furnace air rating. He may have, but the furnace was turned off by my thermostat and he never checked that source. So he never turned the furnace on to fully check its running. He was a complete scam artist. Also he said Modern Comfort was a new company and wanted the business of installing a new furnace.I found out later that it's been in business for years and it is owned by Tevis oil company. I paid him $125.00 and never received a receipt for service or explanation of what service he did, maybe cleaning. I refused his plan which he never offered because he expected that I would buy a new furnace. UGH! A punch in the gut!
