Replace element in 10 gallon water heater Attempted to replace element on 10 gallon heater No existing drain valve on the unit, used threaded supply lines to slowly drain water from tank After tank was drained attempted to remove element, found the wooden shelf the tank currently sits on was bowing and cracking as I tried to unthread the element, without wanting to risk further damage to the shelf or piping above and below the tank I stopped attempting to remove Customer offered to assist in bracing the shelf while I tried to unthread element, we tried with no luck Technician believes the calcium buildup both within the tank and around the Element has sealed it Recommends to customer to replace the existing heater tank At the time of replacement we will add a new heater pan with an exterior drain, as well as a boiler drain on the cold inlet to drain this tank down in the future
