I was called to a home to diagnose and repair a unit that was not cooling. Upon arrival, I found that there was no low voltage going out to the condenser. I checked the connections on the thermostat wire going outside and found that the wire nuts were rusted from rain. I messed with the wire nuts and the unit kicked on for a second before shutting right back off. I then diagnosed the issue as a faulty thermostat and recommended that the wire be rerun with shielded thermostat wire.
