I was called to a home to install a new thermopile in a gas fireplace. Upon arrival, I found that the unit was not firing. I discovered that the gas valve had also failed. I explained to the customer that the repair would be more than a simple replacement of the fireplace. I offered to install a new one for them, but they declined. I explained that the repair would require specialized tools and expertise that they did not have. I also mentioned that I could hire us out to come install the new fireplace for them.
