Diagnosed 20-year-old A.O. Smith 50-gallon electric water heater with active leak from tank bottom, evidenced by significant rust formation at base. Determined unit had reached end of serviceable life due to tank failure. Removed failed unit and installed new water heater with proper connections to existing plumbing system.
