Responded to service call for oil furnace producing banging sounds during startup and oil odor. Diagnosed delayed ignition causing fuel accumulation and subsequent loud boom upon lighting. Identified poor contact between ignition rods and igniter as the root cause, performed thorough cleaning of connections and burner area. Also noted malfunctioning draft regulator not closing/operating properly. Successfully restored normal furnace operation and placed order for replacement draft regulator.
