The homeowner had a gas leak coming from the fireplace. The gas company came out and shut off the gas meter to the home. Afterward, I turned the gas back on and tested the area with a bubble spray to locate the source of the leak, but I couldn’t find it directly under the fireplace. To investigate further, I decided to cut a section of the drywall next to the fireplace. I noticed there were some gas lines behind the fireplace that were inaccessible for the bubble spray test. I also checked outside behind the fireplace and found a gas shut-off valve, which I sprayed as well, but that was not the source of the leak. The only obstacle preventing me from accessing the area behind the fireplace was some partition walls, which had a small gap. I recommended the homeowner contact a general contractor to see if those partition walls could be removed. This would allow us to gain access to investigate the leak more thoroughly.
