Homeowner had us out today because their system is not cooling properly. Upon arrival we noticed that there is a Trane heat pump system from 2013. We noticed some biological growth on the inside of the coil. We also noticed that the disconnect for the unit has burned badly and could be a potential fire hazard. We also noticed that there is no flood protection on the system and the emergency drain pan is very rusted out most likely due to water being in it previously. We checked the refrigerant pressures on the outdoor system and noticed that the system is extremely low, indicating a leak within the system. We found a leak at the evaporator coil. We also noticed that there is an incorrectly installed capacitor, and the contactor is burned out. Based on our findings today, it might be time to think about getting a brand new system.
