The living room circuit #13 had tripped and would not reset. This circuit has a 15 amp AFCI breaker (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter) (Fire Prevention) installed and is required by the National Electrical Code article 210.12. I went into the living room and used a plug tester at the entertainment stand and got a “Open Ground/Open Neutral” reading, I went to the device on the right hand side of the entertainment stand by the hallway and removed it to discover the black (Hot Wire) was broken off along with the white (Neutral Wire). These broken connections created an Arc Fault (Electricity jumping from a metal point to another) causing the breaker to trip and being unable to reset. The wires were plugged into the back of the device which is known as “Quick Wiring” or “Stab in back” this form of terminating is very poor and fast while this type of connection can lead to issues like burnt up outlets, loss of power and breakers tripping.
