Troubleshoot electrical issue. ISSUE: outlets in bathrooms not working, outlets in living room not working LOCATION: master bath, basement bath, and living room FINDINGS:upon arrival I removed and inspected outlets in all locations. The master bath outlets were GFCI receptacles that were tripped. Upon removing the outlet, I saw the ground wire touching the neutral screw on the line side of the GFCI. The basement bathroom outlets had 124 volts and the connections were made properly and I could not recreate the power loss, The living room outlets by the fireplace also had 124 volts. The outlet on the bookshelf side was reading varying voltages due to internal failure caused by age. RESOLUTION: in the master bathroom I removed the ground wire from the neutral screw and reset the GFCI. Power was restored. In the basement bathroom I did nothing because for the entirety of my visit there was no issue. In the living room, we replaced the one outlet that was failing.
