Tech found no 24 volt control voltage inside air handler #9. Confirmed 240 volts into transformer and no voltage out. Terminal on transformer is visibly burnt. Ben Pait approved replacement of transformer so we can further diagnose. After replacing transformer, tech found air handler blowing fuses on a Y call due to low volt coil on 24v 2 pole 40 amp compressor contactor shorted. Uploaded picture of burnt transformer and burnt contactor coil. Tech also found 7.5uf fan capacitor reading low at 5uf. For testing purposes, tech got system running with a new 7.5uf fan capacitor and compressor contactor. Allowed system to stabilize and found subcooling about 1 degree with a design of 15 degrees subcooling. Suction pressure is slightly low. Tech estimates system is 1-2 lbs low on R410a. Bhembree@algsenior.com need to CC. Don McKee approved contactor, capacitor, and refrigerant. After all three components were replaced, tech added 2 lbs of R410a. System is back cooling correctly.
