Not Happy

Ian is a great technician. But I have 2 general comments about Hobson: 1. I was told that a technician would be here between 12 and 5 on 4/3. I waited patiently from 12 pm to 9 pm on 4/3 but no one ever showed up. And I was never updated about the technician's status. 2. To fix my problem I need a new condenser fan blade. Simple to replace and they are about $100, but when I tried to get one myself no one would sell me one because I am not a tech. Hobson will get me one and install it, but I was told it would be about $800. I could install the fan blade myself in less than 10 minutes. WHY ARE U CHARGING ME $700 FOR LABOR ON A SIMPLE 10 MINUTE JOB? DO YOUR TECHS REALLY MAKE $4200/HR???????

For this eval I should have to the home and the homeowner stated her unit was blowing out hot air when she had the thermostat set to 73° f. This was a package unit so I went to the condenser and tested the capacitor first, then gauged up where I had abnormal superheat and subcool. I went inside and used my heat gun and measured 110° f blowing out of the vents when it was 79° in the house. After jumping R,Y,G,O the system switched to cooling. After undoing that jump the system went back into heating, which led me to believe the thermostat was bad. Due to this homeowner being P&L I swapped the thermostat and programmed it accordingly. The system went into a 5 minute delay and then turned on and went into cooling. I left with the thermostat set to 78°. This customer switch to the new home and budget protection plan so her service fee was waived today.

For the super tune-up I inspected the air handler and condenser. All equipment was measuring within manufacturer specs and running well. I talked to the homeowner and recommended a number of different items for his unit to run smoother and more efficient. This includes a whole home surge protection, IAQ200 for cleaner air, and a compressor saver to lower LRA as his Inrush was already 2/3 of the manufacturers specs. Customer said he would talk to his wife about the compressor saver and whole home surge protection and get back with us if he decides to have them installed.

Found the system on lockout due to communication failure to the outdoor unit. At the outdoor unit I found a low voltage wire not making a proper connection. After making the repair the system turned on and is now cooling the home.

Replaced compressor and the suction line bottomed out not allowing any refrigerant to go to the compressor. During further inspection I found that the system had two filter driers installed originally, replaced the outdoor filter drier already. Pumped system back down and removed the second filter drier, TXV has failed not allowing system to operate correctly. Need to order txv and return to install as soon as possible System is pumped down and ready for txv to be replaced. Explained to cust what was going on and they understood. Only doing a pump down charge on the txv replacement since most of the labor is already completed, OK by Mark W

Trane heat pump with air handler installed in 2011. All electrical connections are tight with no corrosion. X13 blower motor is acceptable. Blower wheel and evaporator coil are clean. Dual run capacitor is within tolerance. Compressor and condenser fan motor are acceptable. Refrigerant levels are in range. Highly suggest adding a compressor saver to help with the efficiency and longevity of the the system.
