The carpenter bees are actually nesting along the eaves of the low part of the roof line where the decorative trim is. The way your house is constructed. There is a piece of metal that covers the end of all the soffit area/roofs edge and on those low roof areas that piece of flashing has bowed out enough where the carpenter bees are squeezing underneath it and actually drilling into the edge/the real wood edge of the roof line.
